Show Us Your Collection Contest!!

For the Month of June our meeting program will be a contest.  Please take some pictures of your collection and bring them on a USB stick.  You will get 5 min to present your photos.  The winner will get bragging rights and one year of paid membership dues.  If time allows the winner may also be given the opportunity to give a more detailed presentation.  Here is a great way to show off your collection without having to lug it all down to a physical display.

Here’s what you missed out on if your weren’t able to make it out this Month.

Jimmie and Walter gave us a very interesting view of parts of their collections.  Walter and Jimmie both showed us some great stuff!  We all learned a lot about military tube testers from Jimmie’s very informative presentation!  Thanks to you both for sharing.

Afterwards we had another very interesting monthly Auction.   Don’t count these auctions out.   These 20’s cabinets showed up including a Tuska 225,  and so did a very nice fully restored Philco Cathedral (forgot to snap a picture).  They could have been had for a song and the Cathedral sold for a what I would say was a bargain as well. One member went home with a bag full of free tubes and parts!

Yours truly managed to come home with vintage NLS multi meter working, just needs calibration.   Possibly the cutest DMM ever (shown on top of a VTVM for size comparison).

Afterwards Bill W. gave an eletronics class for the  anyone interested.  Thanks Bill.

All in all a  great time had by all.

HVRA Picnic and Swap Meet in Friendswood Saturday May 28: Family Welcome!!

May 28 @ 8:00 am5:00 pm

We were unable to meet at our usual Bayland Park location during May so we want to try something new. Our Treasurer Tom Taylor has secured a reservation for us at Frankie Carter Randolph Park in Friendswood, TX. We will cater barbecue and require $10 per head adults and $5.00 for kids. We are also going to operate a silent auction at this event so bring your radios and related goods to sell.  This event will be held on Saturday May 28 and we will start to gather at the site at 9:00 am.  Barbecue will be served at Noon.   Come  out and enjoy some camaraderie with your friends in the park! Need directions?? Don’t have a  smart phone?? Take I-45 south past Beltway 8 to the FM 2351 exit. Go WEST 2 miles on FM  2351. Take a right into the park just past the third stoplight.  We will be on your right in Pavilion 1.

We need an RSVP from you however on or before MAY 23.  Tell Bill Werzner how many will attend so we can order the food! werz1943@gmail.com.

Please Note: There are some restrictions on buying/selling at the park. We therefore plan to run a silent auction. We will provide the silent auction bid sheets for anyone wishing to sell items. The minimum bidding for any silent auction item must be $15.00. We cannot run this like to do our monthly auctions due to some park restrictions. And, once a seller closes his silent auction on an item, the buyer will need to close the transaction with the seller with a check–NO CASH. This is again because of park restrictions. Therefore don’t bring any junk to this auction– we can sell that at our July monthly meeting. You can set minimum bids as you desire. Bring the kids and the family to the park. Frisbees, bikes, any park games are welcome. Our BBQ comes from Coach BBQ and all of the fixings will be provided. You can also bring your own grill and food. We will have ice tea with the food but bring other drinks if you plan to arrive before Noon or stay in the afternoon.
